Folk music, as distinct from Church music, inclined to major scales and was more joyful and upbeat. In Bohemia and Moravia it was for centuries a part of rural daily life. Most of the songs were passed down by oral tradition, while a few can be found in hymnals and chronicles. Some have been preserved to this day in variations.
